About Us

Our Mission.

Create a positive school environment which ensures the provision of a comprehensive education of the highest standard.

We strive for the personal and social development of every student, to prepare him or her for life following their secondary education, and instil an interest, pride and confidence in the Irish language.

We provide an Irish medium education catering for students and parents from local Gaelscoileanna and primary schools in Inishowen and Derry, interested in pursuing their secondary education through Irish.

Why choose an education in Irish?

Students completing their exams in Irish receive a 10% points bonus on top of their score – a student getting 75% (H3 mark) will move to 82% (H2 mark) – which offers enhanced selection opportunities at third level.

In many cases, fluent Irish speakers can access higher paid employment in the state, and priority access to public sector employment.

Bi-lingual education makes it easier for students to learn additional languages.

Students in Irish-medium schools have higher achievement in both English and Maths than their peer groups in English-medium schools. Irish-medium schools are also more likely to provide a broader curriculum than other school types.

Our History.

2006: Founding Committee established

2007: School approved by Dept of Education & Skills

2007: School opened in September 2007 with 10 pupils and 6 teachers

2022: Our 15 year anniversary

2026-2027: Proposed opening of new 3-school campus, comprising Gaelscoil Bhun Cranncha, Coláiste Eoghain and Crana College
